Houdini 10 now includes support for the Open Dynamic Engine Rigid Body solver. Renowned as one of the fastest solvers available, the ODE engine is a great fit withHoudini?s integrated dynamics environment. When lots of rigid body objects are involved, the ODE solver lets you work faster which is important when designing a shot.
Houdini 10lets you easily create composite ODE objects and the engine supports Houdini?s RBD constraints. The addition of the Open Dynamics Engine in Houdini 10 brings faster simulations to 3Dartists working with rigid bodies. Faster simulations mean more iterations for your client which means getting the job finished on time and on budget.
While many people importmodels into Houdini from other apps, there is a growing trend to take advantage of Houdini?s procedural approach to creating geometry. Based on user feedback, these improvements willincrease productivity and allow modellers to do more of their work right inside Houdini.
Some of the new tools include a Knife tool and an Edge loop cut tool. You can now grow andshrink selections and tools like Booleans and Extract have added functionality. Houdini?s nodebased networks are the heart of its procedural approach and with Houdini 10 you willenjoy fewer clicks and a higher level of productivity. The first thing you will notice is the new network editor toolbar which gives you quick access to a number of key UI elementssuch as nested network boxes, new align tools and sticky notes.
You can also break nodes away from a network by wiggling the mouse and can drop nodes onto connector lines to addthem to the network. Houdini artists spend a lot of time in the network editor which makes these usability enhancements critical for reducing clicks. The editor has also beenoptimized to make large network display much more interactive.
Motion FX is a great new feature that gives artists and animators access to the power of CHOPS. CHOPS otherwise knownas channel operators, is one of Houdini?s most powerful features and provides advanced procedural control over everything that moves.
